Begonias

There are many varieties to choose from & they grow quickly & easily fill in spaces in the garden that will benefit from attractive foliage & frilly flowers. They are great for containers, hanging baskets & in the landscape. Prefers partial to full shade & moist, but not overly wet, soil. A late spring/early summer plant.

Coleus

An easy-to-grow, exotic & colorful plant that comes in many different varieties, colors & styles. Great for use in beds & borders or in containers. They prefer partial to full shade & need fertile, well-draining soil. A late spring/early summer plant.

 

Ferns

So many varieties to choose from & most of them are perennials in our PNW climate - they are tough! They make great companions to other shade-loving plants & can be used in containers or the landscape. They prefer partial to full shade, rich soil & good waterings. A year ‘round plant.

Fuchsias

These are perfect for pollinators & there are a lot varieties to choose from in many color combinations. There are even hardy fuchsia varieties available that we treat as perennials in the PNW. They need partial to full shade & soil with good drainage. They are great for using in containers, hanging baskets & the landscape. A late spring/early summer plant.

 

Impatiens

A bright & cheery way to liven up any dark and shady part of your yard - there are lots of colors to choose from. Traditional impatiens prefer partial to full shade, but there are new varieties, ‘Sunpatiens’, are more tolerable of sunnier conditions. They are very sensitive to lack of water & will wilt quickly if they lack water. They are great for use in containers, hanging baskets & the landscape. A late spring/early summer plant.
