Cupressus glabra ‘Blue Ice’
A compact, conical tree with exceptionally attractive, frosty, silver-blue foliage. Although fairly slow-growing, it will become a substantial tree form over time. It is extremely tolerant of hot sun and drought conditions. Has a broad upright growth habit & reaches roughly 15’ tall by 8’ wide, growing 12”+ a year.
Cupressus glabra 'Raywood's Weeping'
An interesting addition to temperate gardens as each plant has a unique form. Arms that extend out from a staked central leader weave & curl, creating a conversation piece for garden visitors. White specks are scattered along the fine, delicate, blue green foliage. Native to the southwest United States, it enjoys well-drained, dry soils & full sun. Has a broad upright growth habit & reaches roughly 25’ tall by 15’ wide, growing 15”+ a year.
Cupressus macrocarpa ‘Donard Gold’
This upright-branching conifer has distinctive two-toned foliage that contrasts beautifully with its cinnamon-colored bark. Chartreuse new growth fringes the bright lemon yellow inner foliage. Provides an attractive tall backdrop for low shrubs and makes a handsome hedge or screen. Fragrant foliage is reminiscent of citrus. Has a narrow upright growth habit & reaches roughly 15’ tall by 8’ wide in size, growing 6” to 12” a year.
Cupresses macrocarpa 'Wilma'
Very finely textured, small threads of scale-like lemon yellow foliage are the highlight of this compact, narrow, columnar conifer. Reddish, cinnamon colored bark allows the brilliant foliage to stand out even more. Beautiful as a single specimen or planted in a cluster or a privacy screen. Has a narrow upright growth habit & reaches roughly 12’ tall by 4’ wide in size, growing 6” to 10” a year.
Cupressus sempervirens 'Glauca'
An outstanding conifer with handsome blue-green foliage. Monrovia's superior strain of this classic evergreen offers a stronger blue coloration over others. An ideal specimen to dominate a landscape with its densely branched, narrow, columnar form. Has a narrow upright growth habit & is a fast grower, reaching roughly 60’ to 80’ tall by 4’ to 6’ wide.
Cupressus sempervirens 'Swane's Golden'
A very narrow, columnar form with magnificent, bright, golden yellow new growth that retains good color throughout the season. A stunning specimen on its own, this selection makes great impact when used in mass plantings as an evergreen screen, windbreak, or tall hedge. Has a narrow upright growth habit & reaches roughly 15’ to 20’ tall by 2’ to 3’ wide.

During the months of May and June one of the all-time favorite plants of local gardeners, the peony, is bursting into bloom. There are many excellent peonies available to utilize in our landscapes; including herbaceous cottage types in all sorts of colors (and varying fragrances) and larger growing tree peonies too. I would never scold anyone for growing either of these types (since I do as well), but I want to bring attention to another fabulous peony option… what is known as the intersectional or Itoh Peony.
